A classic brown pub in true English style.

Sir Winston is one of Oslo’s most traditional pubs. With a history spanning more than 50 years, Sir Winston has become one of Oslo’s most renowned piano bars. Every weekend, well-known pianists play live music, encouraging sing-alongs and dancing. As a true brown pub, we naturally show all kinds of sports on large screens. Football and Formula 1 are favorites among our regulars. The bar offers a rich selection of beers, and we’re known for our Guinness. What’s better than a cold beer accompanied by live music from the piano bar? Cheers!

Is Sir Winston’s Public House a bar or a pub?

If you ask people on the street, their answer to “bar” or “pub” might vary. Here in the Nordic region, we often use the terms interchangeably. Most agree that a pub is often associated with a physical establishment and comes from the English term “a public house.” Pubs often serve food (traditional dishes) and have a good selection of beers. A pub can also evoke the sense of an institution with a lot of history and laughter in its walls. A bar is often associated with something a bit more upscale. Regardless of whether we’re talking about a pub or a bar, most people have their favorite places they return to. A place where they feel at home and identify with. Sir Winston’s Public House is definitely a pub with a loyal group of regulars. Sir Winston dates all the way back to 1969. The pub has retained much of its historical charm and allure since its opening. There aren’t many dining establishments in Oslo that can boast over 50 years of operation. The building housing Sir Winston Pub was completed in 1858. The Singer sewing machine factory established itself in the building in 1895 and took over the property around the 1900s. Since then, the building has been referred to as the Singer Building.

The atmosphere at Sir Winston is warm and welcoming.

This is authentic brown pub at its best. The interior is inviting, featuring mahogany wood, chandeliers, and velvet sofa groups. At Sir Winston, we welcome everyone and take pride in having an audience spanning multiple generations.
